The Joint Commission for the Accreditation of Health Care Organizations (JCAHO) and ASHA specify the need for all audiometric test equipment to be in proper calibration in order to be used in the assessment of auditory function. 
The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) has published the accepted standards for the calibration of audiometric test equipment.
